Summary

Insitec D provides robust, reliable on-line particle sizing for dry powder applications and is ideal for process optimization and control applications.

Compliance with the new ATEX regulations (99/92/EC and 94/9/EC) – mandatory for existing workplaces from July 2006 – results for the first time in the zoning of areas that are potentially explosive due to the presence of dust. The Insitec D has been approved for Zone 22 use (Category 3 approval), and is expected to be approved for Zone 21 use (Category 2 approval).

Designed to IEC 61241, the safety of the instrument is ensured through protection by enclosure and by limiting maximum surface temperatures. With a maximum rated surface temperature of 120°C, the Insitec D is suitable for all dusts with a 5 mm layer temperature in excess of 195°C, making it suitable for challenging materials such as lignite.

Process Interface

Robust, repeatable and representative sampling is the key to good measurement, making the process interface a critical part of the Insitec system.

Each process interface is customized to the process and automated to minimize operator intervention.

Continuous sampling:

  • Range of process interfaces allow sampling directly in-line, on-line using eductor, or special samplers such as screw augers
  • Continuous on-line particle sizing in bulk powders with mass flows from 1kg/h to 500t/h
  • Eductor interface contains no moving parts and delivers the correctly dispersed powder to the instrument, continuously
  • Customized design for abrasive, fragile and cohesive materials
  • Dry flow cell technology has successful 10 year track record in industrial processes. Range of available flowcell path lengths (line i.d. of 25 – 50 mm standard, >50 mm special projects) for in-line applications
  • Purge keeps windows clean from dust, minimizing routine maintenance
  • 10 bar max operating pressure capability
Automation Interface
  • Full automation and integration into plant control systems
  • RTSizer software interfaces with plant control systems through Malvern Link automation package
  • Award-winning Intellution iFix SCADA license delivered with every process system. This gives enormous flexibility in controlling instrument, sampling system and linking to the plant control system
Laser diffraction - Established sensor technology Proven laser diffraction technology lies at the heart of the Insitec D. The technique of laser diffraction is now the standard in most particulate processing industries and has been pioneered and developed by Malvern for more than 30 years. The robustness of the technique ensures that the Insitec sensor copes easily with the rigors and demands of an industrial process environment. The sensor's changeable lenses allow the tuning of the instrument resolution to the needs of the process.

A rugged industrial solution

The Insitec D is designed from the outset for industrial use. The rugged construction and robust technology reflect the exacting demands placed on an analytical instrumentation that is in continuous use in a process environment. Capable of taking scattering patterns every second and delivering the particle size distribution in real-time, an Insitec D can make more than a million measurements every year. The instrument, the process interface, analysis software, automation and data reporting can all be customized to the unique needs of individual clients.
